INTRODUCING...

SMARTRIP ON IPHONE

On Monday, September 10, 2020, DC-area residents woke up to wall-to-wall breaking news coverage. Across the District and its suburbs, cell phones vibrated with push alerts, as TV live trucks lined 23rd Street NW.

Had there been an overnight fire? Did a conflict erupt overseas?

Nope, just Metro with a new way for riders to pay.

Of course, this kind of coverage doesn't happen by luck. It's the result of smart strategy, great relationships, and a well-executed plan. See the results in the video below.

RUSH PLUS:

RUSH HOUR REINVENTED

Metro's new Silver Line was about a year away from opening, but the service changes needed to start now. For planners, the challenge was finding a way to accommodate 8 additional trains/hour in the already maxed-out Potomac River tunnel.

The solution? Take half of the Blue Line, call it "Yellow," and run it over the bridge instead.

Confused? You're in good company. The line colors and destinations that residents had grown up with were about to change in the biggest re-drawing of the Metro map in its history.
